Electromagnetic Fields (Emf)
Much of Feng Shui is
about health and well-being. It's about carefully arranging
your environment so that it supports you in achieving your
desired outcomes. Remaining healthy is a critical success factor.
It is important with any discipline to take the principles and ensure
that they are adapted for the modern age and the cultural setting.
Potential health hazards such as electro-magnetic
fields
(emf's) should
therefore be taken seriously. All power lines, electrical and
electronic appliances produce EMFs. Governments across the world are
now setting lower and lower legal leveles for emf's- especially for
places such as schools and public buildings.
What are EMF's?
Electric fields are created by differences in voltage: the higher the
voltage, the stronger will be the resultant field. Magnetic fields are
created when electric current flows; the greater the current the
stronger the magnetic field. An electric current will exist even when
there is no current flowing. If current does flow, the strength of the
magnetic field will vary with power consumption but the electric field
will be constant.
Electric fields are strongest close to a charge or charged conductor,
and their strength rapidly diminishes with distance from it. Conductors
such as metal shield them very effectively. Other materials, such as
building materials and tress, provide some shielding capability.
Therefore the electric fields from power lines outside the house are
reduced by walls, buildings and trees, when power lines are buried
under ground the fields at the surface are hardly detectable.
Magnetic fields however, are not blocked by common materials such as
walls, although they do rapidly decrease at greater distances from the
source.
What
do EMFs do to us?
Many Governments continue to deny that any problem exists, or that
evidence is "too weak". However, published scientific studies and
official reports suggest that there is little doubt that alternating
electric and magnetic fields may give out measurable harmful biological
effects. Recent research has shown that long-term exposure to
relatively low fields from sources within the home, such as mains
electrical supply and appliances, can present potential health risks.
Overall research shows that the increased incident of the following is
linked to exposure to some EMFs: cancer, miscarriages, clinical
depression, suicide, SIDS ((cot death), Alzheimer’s, ME.
Common
sources of EMFs
outside the home are:
• Power lines
• Electricity sub-stations
• Satellite dishes
• Radio transmitters and radars
• Mobile phone masts
• Railway lines
Common
sources of EMFs
inside the home are:
• Mains supply
• Light switches & wiring
• Power sockets &
Extension cables
• Mobile phones
• Cordless (DECT) phones
• Microwaves
• Wireless technology (such as
with computers,
modems, etc)
• Computers
• Electrical appliances
• Storage heaters
We offer a Health
Homes Check that
will measure the levels of EMF's found in your home or business.
It will also check for Geopathic Stress and remove any GS
through
Earth acupuncture.
Should the levels in your home be above guideline levels it is best to
either practice prudent avoidence, minimise them, or better still,
eradicate them where possible.
